“Victoria Lee and New Ground” was formed in early 2012 by founding members Victoria Lee, Tyler Jackson, and Bailey Coe with Gary Baird formally joining the band later in 2013. Though, three fourths of New Ground’s members are celebrating their youth as teens, this group has and continues to demonstrate the hard driving traditional style that has made Bluegrass music a favorite among many, as well as, “marinating” in their own flavors to give their performances a certain freshness that continues to drive their musical careers.

Victoria is the youngest at a vibrant, 15 years of age and a sophomore at LongLeaf School of the Arts in downtown Raleigh, NC. She has a passion for music and vocal range that is surpassed by few as she provides rhythm guitar and lead vocals for “New Ground”. With a determination and drive that would stagger most while being instructed and influenced by Steve Dilling of “IIIrd Tyme Out”, she has developed a love for our nations “Backbone” music, Bluegrass, and is becoming well known in the folk community. Victoria is also influenced by Russell Moore, Rhonda Vincent, and Patty Loveless to name a few.

Tyler brings his unprecedented skills to “New Ground” at the ripe old age of 17, implementing the styles of his major influences such as Steve Dilling, J. D. Crowe, Earl Scruggs, Terry Baucom, and Ron Stewart as he provides Banjo, Lead Guitar, and harmony vocals in a hard driving “Bluegrass” style as only he can. In 2011, Tyler placed 3rd in the youth banjo instrumentalist competition at “The Old Time Fiddlers Convention” in Galax, VA.

Bailey, the eldest of the founding members at the age of 18, was schooled by Russell Johnson of “The Grass Cats” and reacquainted himself with his love for Bluegrass music. Not only does Bailey provide hard driving upbeat Mandolin for “New Ground” but he also adds lead and harmony vocals as well.
Gary, at an undisclosed age, is no stranger to the stage. Formally with “Constant Change” with whom he toured the East Coast for some seven years, discovered his love for music while listening to gospel and bluegrass albums with his family as a child. He learned to play on a ship while proudly serving overseas in the United States Navy and upon his return home in 1992, joined a local group and has been playing bluegrass music ever since. He brings to “New Ground” not only a smooth and steady bass rhythm but also harmony and lead vocals while also adding an element of “band chemistry” that relaxes and encourages other band members while ensuring not only the goal that “New Ground” is having fun on stage but the fans and audience is, as well.
